Skeptical About Energy Healing? Check Out the Research

David was thoroughly discouraged when he came to see me. He suffered from chronic pain in his neck, shoulders, and hips, and had already invested a lot of time and money into getting better. He admitted to me that he had little hope of finding relief through Healing Touch. As much as his mind was set on healing, he said his body was always holding him back.

We had several sessions in which we focused on trauma release. As David began connecting to painful experiences from the past, he reported feeling better. His massage therapist even noticed a difference in his body as he let go of old beliefs and patterns associated with protection from physical and verbal abuse and repressed emotions.

“I really didn’t think this would work,” he said.

For David, his skepticism was mainly wrapped up in many years of discouragement and pain with no relief. Other skeptics of the effects of energy therapies claim, “It’s just the placebo effect,” or complain that the healing stories we hear are anecdotal and not based in science.

Yet, Healing Touch is nationally accredited and being practiced in hospitals and healthcare centers throughout the world. Mimi Guarneri, MD, cardiologist at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, utilizes Healing Touch as a regular part of her patients’ health plan. Says Guarneri: “It may sound anecdotal but when you see it enough times it becomes medicine.”

And, in fact, there is growing research that supports the efficacy of energy healing, specifically measuring the effect of using Healing Touch as a potent non-pharmacological adjunct to the treatment of pain.

In one studyresearchers looked at patients with osteoarthritis of the knee joint who were suffering from pain,  limited joint function, mobility, and even depression. They found that biofield therapies like Healing Touch improved these issues without the use of medication.

Another study revealed that participants “experienced notable quantitative shifts in physical symptoms such as less pain and reduced medications” with Healing Touch.

Is David’s experience anecdotal? Perhaps, but for him and many others, what’s most important is that it works, the pain has been greatly diminished. For everyone else, the science is there to back it up.
