Pay Now or Pay Later? How to Rethink Your Investment in Preventive Medicine.

Who would ever expect to become inspired about preventive medicine while grocery shopping?

A few years ago, I happened to run into a friend in the produce department at Whole Foods. We exchanged the usual hellos, followed by remarks about shopping at Whole Foods, a wonderful grocery store but rather pricey. My friend said something that has stayed with me ever since:

“I figure you pay now or you pay later.”

The  truth of this statement as it relates to preventive medicine struck me. Whether or not you hold the belief that spending more money on organic food will result in better health and less cost down the road is really beside the point. The bigger question is:

Is it worth spending time, effort, and money NOW on my health and well being?

My answer is a resounding YES. But where to begin? There is no end to the advice that we hear regarding diet, exercise, sleep, and stress reduction. Search “preventive medicine” on the internet and you will come up with over 21,400,000 results! It’s a bit overwhelming.

Healing Touch is an excellent start. This holistic approach addresses all aspects of who you are as a beautiful, unique individual. Healing Touch addresses physical and psychological symptoms, but also recognizes that relationships, work, lifestyle, thoughts and beliefs, spirituality, past history and future dreams can equally impact your wellness.

Often, there is resistance to allocating resources to healthcare beyond the annual physical. Coming face to face with fears, worn-out beliefs, and wounds can be challenging, even painful. It’s tempting to make excuses, make ourselves too busy to bother, or numb our pain with food, alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, you get the idea. These methods, which are often done out of habit rather than conscious awareness, seem to make the symptoms “go away, ” but this is an illusion.

Avoidance embeds the problems deeper and deeper into our energetic matrix.

Eventually, little nudges in the form of symptoms re-emerge. If those symptoms continue to be ignored, little symptoms become bigger symptoms, until eventually they are screaming at us. Excruciating pain, a fall, a heart attack, depression, a broken relationship are all ways that our body might scream at us if we continue to ignore it.

As my friend said that day at Whole Foods, “You pay now or you pay later.”

How can you begin investing in yourself today? Here are 6 easy steps to get you started with preventive medicine in your daily life.

  1. Receive regular Healing Touch sessions for preventive medicine.
  2. Learn some self care techniques from your practitioner.
  3. Put together a team of healthcare professionals to create a comprehensive approach.

  5. Choose one activity or approach that resonates with you.
  6. Commit to a daily self care practice, even if it is for just a few minutes. Read more HERE.

Each step you take to prioritize your wellness shifts your energy, raises your vibration, and tells the quantum field that you are serious about change, healing, and health. When that message goes out you will begin to receive support in ways you never imagined.

If you are having a hard time deciding what approach to preventive medicine might be best for you, choose something, anything. Give it a try. Have fun with it! Maybe today it’s the simple act of buying organic produce, as I did that day in Whole Foods.
