Why Self Care Is Good for You, the Planet, and Beyond

Stretching out on a treatment table and entering a state of deep relaxation while you receive Healing Touch is heavenly! And experience shows that healing energies can continue to move through us for a few days after a session.

What if there was something that could be done to enhance the work and extend the effectiveness of Healing Touch?

This is where “self care” comes in. One of the most important and gratifying aspects of my work as a Healing Touch practitioner is to help my clients develop a self care practice. It is also the most important and gratifying commitment I make to myself every day.

Why is self care so important?

Ultimately, all healing is self healing. Certainly, the practitioner facilitates the process, and with ample training and experience, is able to be an effective conduit for the energy. However, the relationship between client and healer is a partnership.

We empower ourselves when we realize  that we play an active role in our own healing.

A commitment to self care means that we take responsibility for our lifestyle and make choices that support our desire for optimum health. Are you looking for ideas?

Simply ask yourself, “What sounds interesting? Feasible? Fun?” If you find yourself saying, “Yes, but…” you are making excuses and your life might be out of balance.

Thankfully, there is no limit to the things that qualify as self care: consuming healthy, clean food; taking classes or workshops; reading books or articles; staying active by swimming, biking, running, walking, skiing (my personal favorite); spending time in nature (another personal favorite);engaging in mind/body activities like qigong, tai chi; or spiritual practices like chanting, meditation, or prayer. The list goes on and on.

Even the energy techniques that you enjoy while relaxing on a treatment table can be done at home. Clients are often surprised when I offer to teach some Healing Touch methods for self care. Magnetic Passes, Pain Drain, Mind Clearing, and the Self Chakra Connection are simple practices that I teach and all are effective tools for any self care toolbox.

Sometimes I hear clients question the decision for self care by asking, isn’t it selfish or self-indulgent?

Absolutely not!

Self Care is the most important means I know that not only promotes our own healing, but allows us to be of service to others.

From an energetic standpoint, self care raises your energetic vibration and enhances your health. This creates a ripple effect that has a positive impact, first on your immediate surroundings and relationships, then on your community, the entire planet, and conceivably to the ends of the universe and beyond.

Never underestimate the power of self care!
