The Heart of Healing

In one brief stunning moment, everything I had ever experienced and learned about energy healing suddenly became clear.

I saw this image.

It depicts the electromagnetic field of the heart of one person interpenetrating the field of another person.

“This is it. This is what energy healing is all about,” I thought. But how do I explain it? How do I put into words why this image speaks to me so profoundly?

Experiencing “The Remembrance Process” brought it home. I was attending a Healing Touch for Babies class. We were guided through a simple exercise in which we shared a concern with our partner. My partner listened, but did not say anything. Then, for 5 minutes, she focused on loving thoughts and held an image of me in those thoughts. As we sat in silence, tears poured from my eyes and I knew viscerally that my body and spirit were releasing, healing, and integrating .

According to research at HeartMath Institute, when we focus our thoughts and emotions on beauty and goodness, the rhythm of the heart becomes coherent.

As shown in the above illustration, coherence refers to the measurable change in heart waves, which become regular instead of erratic, when we change our thoughts from distress to appreciation. That vibration and frequency emanates and our heart field expands, which has a positive influence on other fields of energy, thus facilitating the healing response.

For years, I have studied, embraced and practiced the tenets of Healing Touch. When I am in session, I remember the importance of centering, grounding, and attuning in order to be present and tuned in to my client’s needs. I practice intentionality and recognize that my thoughts and focus of attention influence the effectiveness of our work together. I administer the various techniques with accuracy, knowing that these methods have been designed to build new energetic patterns. Remaining heat-centered, creating sacred space, and letting go of outcome are known to enhance the possibilities for healing.

In my personal life, I have dedicated myself to this work, to reading and studying to deepen my understanding of the research that supports energy medicine, to practicing daily self care to enhance my ability to be a clear channel of healing for others, and to living a life of integrity

All of these practices have contributed to my development as a healer.

But none of it prepared me for the epiphany I experienced when I saw that image. It all paid off for me in that moment.

The training, the techniques, and the practices are all important components on the path to becoming a Healing Touch practitioner. But ultimately, it all boils down to holding a loving, caring, compassionate attitude. We place our client in that field of love and let the energy do the work.
