A New Twist on Mind Clearing

As a Healing Touch practitioner, I often use a technique called Mind Clearing, which helps to balance people’s mental and emotional states and make them feel calm and centered.

When I administer Mind Clearing, I apply a series of 10 different hand positions slowly and methodically to the client’s head and neck. First, I sink my fingers into their clavicles, then I place three fingers at their cervical vertebrae and three fingers on their brow. Next, I allow their head to be heavy in my hands as I apply gentle traction at the base of their skull, then move my thumbs to the top of their head, and follow that with the placement of my fingers on both sides of their head to balance the left and right sides of the brain. Next, I gently sink three fingers from each hand into their brow and when the timing feels right I spread my fingers out toward their hairline like I’m opening a curtain. Then I rub their temporomandibular joint (TMJ), brush down both sides of their face a few times, and finally cup their face with my hands.

Mind Clearing is typically used to help promote relaxation, improve focus, eliminate headaches, and reduce tension.

But recently, I discovered that Mind Clearing can also help you come to a new awareness if you seem to be stuck in a certain mindset.

A client who came in for a session was complaining about a disagreement she was having with her boyfriend. She felt she needed commitment from him before she was willing to make any changes to her lifestyle; her boyfriend, on the other hand, felt she needed to make changes before he made a commitment to the relationship.

As I listened to her talk, I sensed that the energy in her brow seemed blocked, and I had an impulse to administer Mind Clearing.

When I got to the part of the series where I placed three fingers from each hand on her brow and then separated my fingers like opening a curtain, a thought came to me: be open to different perspectives and ways of seeing things. And then when I rubbed her TMJ, I again felt as if the energy was shifting, allowing her to let go of the need to be set in one way of thinking, as if stubbornness was giving way to flexibility.

The brow chakra, or third eye, is an energetic center that has to do with inner vision and insight. By clearing away the blocked energy here, I was helping to open the door to a new way of thinking for her. The joints, and the TMJ or jaw in particular, can be seen as a metaphor for rigidity versus flexibility.

At the end of the session, I asked if anything came to her during the Mind Clearing, and she replied that she had come to an awareness that maybe there is another way of seeing this. “If I follow through with some lifestyle changes for my boyfriend, I will actually be meeting my own need for a commitment from him.

So if you are feeling stuck or stubborn about a particular topic in your life, perhaps Mind Clearing is just what you need to open yourself up to a new point a view.
